November’s player of the month has been decided
Hull City’s injured star Joe Gelhardt won’t have a trophy to console him through his rehab process after missing out on the November player of the month award.
The Leeds United loan star was shortlisted for the monthly prize after his impressive goal-scoring exploits which helped the Tigers climb the Championship ladder. Gelhardt scored four goals and picked up an assist in his six games during the month, but it wasn’t enough.
That’s because it’s a Coventry double celebration with Sky Blues forward Ellis Simms taking the player of the month award alongside boss Frank Lampard with the manager of the month accolade.
Coventry won all five league matches in November, scoring 14 goals in the process, five of them coming from Simms.
Simms said: “I’m really proud to be named Championship Player of the Month. This was only possible because of my teammates and the staff pushing standards every day.
“Individual awards come from team performances, and the results we’ve had make this extra special. I’ll take the confidence from it and keep giving everything for the club and the fans.”
Coventry have now opened up a five point lead at the top of the Championship and have scored 51 goals so far from 20 games, although a stumble this month has seen them pick up just one point from their last two matches.
Speaking of Simms’ award win, Sky Sports’ EFL pundit Don Goodman said: “Titles aren’t won with 11 players, you need a brilliant squad if you are going to achieve anything in football, and Ellis Simms typified this in November. Despite often being used as a substitute, when his opportunity came, he didn’t half take it.
“The striker helped his team cement their position at the top of the Championship with five goals and an assist.”
