Applications also include plans for a new home in Etton
Here’s a run down of some of the planning applications that have recently been submitted to East Riding Council. The applications include plans to turn a former windmill into a home.
Other applications include plans for a new home in Etton, near Beverley. The home would be built on land next to The Pub at Etton, formerly The Light Dragoon.
Keyingham Mill
Plans have been submitted to the council to convert the disused Keyingham Mill and outbuildings into a home. The windmill is a Grade II Listed building with the site consisting of the 6-storey tower and two single-storey outbuildings.
Plans confirm the tower itself will remain “exactly as it exists”. Submitted documents state: “The proposed scheme of change of use and conversion of the building to a dwelling does not change anything internally with the windmill tower and it is thought the tower would provide a showcase for future occupiers of the converted building.”
The eastern single-storey building would be retained and converted into accommodation under plans. The western single-storey building, which is said to be “in a poor state structurally”, would be replaced with “a new similar section.”
New Etton home
Plans have also been submitted seeking permission to build a new home on Main Street in Etton. The home would be built on land next to The Pub at Etton, formerly known as The Light Dragoon.
The Light Dragoon closed down in 2019, with the site now having been brought back to life as ‘The Pub at Etton’. Plans say the the pub is run by ‘associates’ of the application’s applicants.
Plans state: “The layout of the new home reflects the character of Main Street where the existing homes front the road with garages to the rear. The majority of the buildings in the village nearby are next to, or set back from the road by a short distance, and this is reflected in the proposed layout.”
New use for former council building
Finally, the council has received plans to turn one its former buildings into a restaurant. An application has been submitted seeking permission to transform the council’s former customer service centre on Newbegin in Hornsea.
The application includes a single-storey extension to the rear of the building and the installation of outdoor seating both at the front and rear of the site. A similar application was submitted to the council in July but was withdrawn soon after.
