The Environment Agency has issued several warnings and alerts for across the region

Several flood alerts and warnings have been issued throughout East Yorkshire. These warnings have been issued by the Environment Agency and are in place today (Monday, December 1).

The Environment Agency provides 3 types of flood warning: Flood alert (flooding is possible), flood warning (flooding is expected) and severe flood warning (flooding could be a risk to life and significant disruption to communities).

Flood warnings

Holderness Drain and Wawne Common and Woody Carr: According to the government website: “High river levels are expected to cause flooding today. Flooding is expected on Monday the 1st of December. Locations most affected will be isolated properties at Wawne Common, Woody Carr and North’s Bridge.

“Some further showers are expected Monday and Tuesday. This may keep water levels high. We are closely monitoring the situation. Take care and avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water.”

Holderness Drain and Leven Drain at Leven: “Rising river levels are expected to cause flooding today. Flooding is expected on 1 December 2025. Locations most affected will be Leven village.

“We are closely monitoring the situation and have pumps in operation. Take care and avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water.”

According to the Environment Agency, there are steps you should take when a warning is issued. These are:

  • protect yourself and your loved ones
  • move your loved ones, pets and valuables to a safe place
  • move to higher ground or the upper floor of a building
  • turn off the gas, electricity and water in your home if it’s safe
  • put flood protection equipment in place
  • do as the emergency services tell you
  • help others if it’s safe to do so

Flood alerts

The Environment Agency has also issued several flood alerts for the region. These are as follows:

  • Setting Dike catchment
  • Holderness Drain
  • Burstwick and Keyingham Drains
  • South East Holderness
  • North Holderness
  • River Foulness and Market Weighton catchment
  • North Sea coast at Bridlington

Similarly to flood warnings, the Environment Agency also issues a list of what to do when an alert has been issued. You should:

  • be ready to follow your flood plan
  • have insurance documents and any medications ready
  • avoid walking, cycling or driving through any flood water
  • move any livestock and farming equipment away from areas likely to flood
