The Tigers were beaten in a frantic five-goal thriller in the West London rain
Hull City head coach Sergej Jakirovic says he must find a way to stop the deluge of shots on the Tigers’ goal, as attention turns to Tuesday night’s visit of Ipswich Town.
Despite leading twice, City were beaten 3-2 at QPR on Saturday in a game where they shipped 26 attempts on their goal, reminiscent of the early-season loss at Bristol City, where the Robins notched 29.
Goals from Joe Gelhardt and Enis Destan saw the Tigers lead 2-1 at Loftus Road, but QPR regularly created opportunities, with 15 coming in the first half alone.
Jakirovic was frustrated with the manner of the goals they conceded against Rangers, who inflicted a second consecutive away defeat on the Tigers, and he’s demanded more aggression from his team.
“We will analyse some clips and we will try to sort out because we allowed too many shots towards our goal,” the Croatian told Hull Live. “We have to be more aggressive in this situation and to jump in more aggressively without doubts about what will happen behind me.
“Like QPR in some moments of the game. They were very aggressive towards our players, but OK, this is sometimes how you read the game, how you shuffle the defensive line, so we have work to do.”
The City head coach was, however, full of praise for goalkeeper Ivor Pandur, fresh from his first senior international trip with Croatia. Pandur was left exposed at times and made some crucial saves to keep his side in the game and give them some hope going into the final stages.
“It’s a very big boost for him. He got an invitation to the Croatian national team. Now, he is in the top four or top five of Croatia’s goalkeepers, so he has a great opportunity to go to the World Cup in June next year.
“He played very well. I’m very satisfied. It’s not good for us because we allowed a lot of shots. A lot of one against one situations, but these saves were incredible. It was a great night for him, he conceded three goals, but he played very good.”
