The Tigers chief has had quite the impact since arriving at the MKM Stadium in late June

Hull City head coach Sergej Jakirovic may not have claimed October’s Manager of the Month award, but just being nominated was a badge of honour for the Croatian.

Charlton Athletic’s 91st-minute equaliser denied City a one-hundred per cent record in the month, which enabled Coventry City boss Frank Lampard to claim the crown after winning five of their six games, losing only once at Wrexham.

City looked to be on course for four straight wins until that injury-time concession ensured it was three wins and a draw from their four in the month, still, an incredibly good return.

Despite missing out, Jakirovic’s nomination was a significant milestone for City and further enhanced their growing reputation as one of the Championship’s great entertainers, and showcased what giant strides they have made this season.

It also represented City’s first managerial nomination since Liam Rosenior in February 2024, and comes on the back of Oli McBurnie winning September’s Player of the Month, while Joe Gelhardt’s winner against Leicester City has since been awarded Goal of the Month.

“I am on the good way. Liam (Rosenior) was fighting until the end for the play-offs,” the City boss told Hull Live when he clocked Rosenior was the last acclaimed Tigers boss. “For me, it’s an honour because every manager, I think, who was nominated did a very, very good job.

“It’s not easy to (win games). Frank (Lampard), they won everything in the last month, so this is normal that he will win this award. The rest of the managers there, we are struggling with the same problems when we’re speaking together before the game, and after the game, we are struggling with the same problems.

“We are struggling with the happy players, with the unhappy players, but this is our job, so I think every manager in this league could get the award, especially at the end of the season, because it’s very difficult.”
