The Tigers carved out a stunning chance for Gelhardt to add to his ever-growing tally

Joe Gelhardt’s tap-in against Leicester City has been crowned the Championship’s goal of the month for October, with judge Don Goodman labelling it mesmerising.

Gelhardt’s crisp finish at the back post finished off a stunning move from Sergej Jakirovic’s men to make it 2-0 in front of a jubilant MKM Stadium crowd, with Ryan Giles’ cross picking out the summer signing.

Hull City went on to beat the Foxes 2-1 and continue what has been a terrific start to the new Championship season, and since then, the Tigers have gone on to win two of the four outings since then.

“Goal of the Month is often dominated by individual brilliance, so it’s nice to see a ‘team’ goal win it for a change,” Goodman said of Gelhardt‘s strike.

“Joe Gelhardt expertly finished a mesmerising move that sliced open the Leicester defence with free-flowing passing and movement. A truly outstanding goal!”

On his finish, the in-form Tigers ace was full of praise for his Tigers colleagues, who helped fashion what was a golden opportunity for the Leeds United loanee, and one he didn’t need a second invitation to snap up.

“The build-up for the goal was brilliant – I had the easy part of just tapping into an open goal,” Gelhardt explained. “Credit to Liam (Millar), Ryan (Giles), Regan (Slater) and Charlie (Hughes) for the play beforehand. If I could share the award with them, I would! This is the main place I wanted to come in the summer after last season, so I’m buzzing to be back. We’ve had a good start to the season and, hopefully, we can keep it going.”

Gelhardt beat off competition from Millwall’s Femi Azeez, Ipswich Town’s Jaden Philogene and Leicester City’s Aaron Ramsey, which dragged the Foxes back into the game against the Tigers.
