There was an exciting line-up of talent displayed at a show in Hull organised by not-for-profit social care provider HICA Group.

It hosted its annual HICA’s Got Talent at the Freedom Centre, in Preston Road, a talent show designed to celebrate the creativity and community spirit across the group’s care homes. HICA’s Got Talent featured 12 acts made up of staff, residents, a family member and a young volunteer performer.

Among the highlights were a 16-year-old care home volunteer flautist, Nelisha Fernando, performing a selection of her favourite pieces. Nelisha volunteers at HICA’s Overton House, in Cottingham.

Also on the bill was a moving performance of We’ll Meet Again by a resident marking her 74th wedding anniversary, accompanied by a staff member. There was also a lively dance battle, comedy clown act and performances from HICA’s training team, who combined singing with Makaton sign language.

HICA’s Got Talent was fully funded by its SHINE Fund, a special fund that enables the group to create experiences and opportunities for the people it supports. SHINE is made possible through the HICA Lottery and other fundraising efforts by the group and helps to provide everything from day trips and social events to new activity equipment.
