On-the-spot fines will be issued to anyone found littering outside Hull Royal Infirmary – including dropping cigarette butts

Hull City Council will start issuing £150 fixed penalty notices to individuals caught littering outside Hull Royal Infirmary, it has announced. Enforcement agents will be patrolling the hospital perimeter, as well as other priority zones across the city.

Starting tomorrow (Wednesday, November 12), the council’s enforcement contractor, LA Support Limited, will be issuing £150 fixed penalty notices to those found to be littering around the perimeter of Hull Royal Infirmary. This includes those dropping cigarette butts.

As a result, the council is urging everyone who visits or works at the hospital to dispose of litter responsibly. Residents should use bins provided by the NHS and council in the area. If no bins are available, the council says you should take your litter home.

Councillor Charles Quinn, portfolio holder for environment, spoke of the importance of this. He said: “Littering outside the hospital is not only unsightly but deeply disrespectful to those receiving care and the dedicated staff working tirelessly to provide it.

“By introducing fines, we’re making it clear that this behaviour is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Our goal is to create a clean and safe environment around Hull Royal Infirmary – one that staff and visitors can feel proud of and welcome in.”

This initiative forms a new Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) to combat anti-social behaviour outside Hull Royal Infirmary. The council says the enforcement aims to support public health and cleanliness around the hospital.
