The activities are part of the Holiday Activities and Food programme

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is showcasing a range of free creative activities for children and young people receiving benefits-related free school meals. The sessions take place across the East Riding.

These include musical themed dance workshops, crafts, baking and sports camps, as well as outdoor adventure sessions and farm experiences. Children can learn K-POP dance routines, groom a horse, try sumo wrestling or archery, design and make their own festive gifts and enjoy Christmas parties.

The activities are part of the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme, which is funded by the Department for Education. It is primarily aimed at children between five and 16 who are in receipt of benefits-related free school meals.

There are also a limited number of places available to children and young people who have an education, health and care plan (EHCP), regardless of free school meals status. Councillor Victoria Aitken, cabinet member for children, families and education said: “There’s a fantastic range of activities available right across the East Riding – from Anlaby and Bridlington to Goole and Withernsea.

“It’s important that children and their families can access these fantastic, free activities in their local communities. We’re really pleased to be supporting the HAF scheme again, to help keep children and young people entertained, active and having fun.”
