Sam Lisone was highly critical of England head coach Shaun Wane after the Kangaroos defeated the hosts 14-4, securing the Ashes series in the process
The Rugby Football League are currently evaluating a social media post by Sam Lisone, following England’s test series defeat to Australia on Saturday.
Lisone was notably critical of England head coach Shaun Wane after the Kangaroos triumphed over the hosts 14-4, thereby securing the Ashes series. In an Instagram story post, Lisone stated: “Pick Jake Connor you soft fat ***** lad @shaunwayne”.
Lisone, who is set to join Hull FC, spent the previous season playing alongside Connor at Leeds Rhinos, with the halfback concluding the campaign by receiving the Man of Steel.
Connor’s exclusion from the England squad was a major point of discussion before the series commenced and with Wane’s team only managing one try in two games so far, it has reignited the debate, with Lisone expressing his views clearly.
However, Lisone may now find himself in a precarious situation, as the governing body is currently assessing his comments. No official investigation or compliance matter has been initiated at this stage but if there is reasonable evidence to do so, the prop could find himself in trouble.
Lisone, aged 31, is heading to the MKM Stadium after three seasons with Leeds Rhinos, where he made 78 appearances. 2024 was arguably his best season after impressing under Brad Arthur, but he is now prepared for a new chapter after joining Hull FC.
Meanwhile, England will aim to avoid a series whitewash at the weekend when they face Australia for a third time at Headingley, the home of the Rhinos.
