The Tigers saw their three-game winning run ended by a stoppage-time concession

Semi Ajayi admits Hull City were disappointed with their last-gasp 1-1 draw with Charlton Athletic on Saturday, but says the Tigers must be pleased with a positive week.

Joe Gelhardt’s third goal in as many games looked to have sealed a fourth straight win for Sergej Jakirovic’s men for the first time in four years, before Luke Berry prodded in from a corner in the 91st minute to salvage a point for Nathan Jones’ side.

Despite that draw, which denied City a fifth home win of the season already and the chance to match their entire total last season, the resurgent Tigers have taken seven points from nine in a busy three-game week, having won at Birmingham City and then beaten Leicester City.

“Yeah, for sure (disappointed), we go to every game wanting to win,” he told Hull Live after coming through his second 90 minutes in the space of a few days, having recovered from a hamstring problem.

“Today (Saturday) was no different, so to be in the position we were in, we were definitely disappointed not to come away with the three points, but, if you look at the bigger picture, seven points since the international break and what, 10 from the last 12? There’s definitely a lot of positives we can take from the week in total. That’s credit to the boys. It would obviously have been nice to see out the three points, but it’s not all doom and gloom.”

City will feel like it’s two points dropped, having been so close to what would have been a thoroughly professional display against another of the Championship’s in-form teams, especially leaving Berry unmarked in the six-yard box so late in the game, as they missed out on a third clean sheet in the opening 12 games.

The Nigerian international says that concentration and attention to detail are something the players are acutely aware of, and keen to put right, ready for another three-game week starting with Saturday’s early kick-off at struggling Norwich City.

“We spoke about it in the changing room after the game. We know exactly the few details that we missed out on that would have prevented that (equalising goal), and now it’s down to us to put that right and for the rest of the season moving forward.”
