Beal Homes is proposing the expansion of its Pilgrims Walk development with a £37-million investment
Plans to build 169 more homes at a Hessle-area housing development have been submitted. Beal Homes is looking to expand Pilgrims Walk on a tree-fringed site of almost 15 acres north of Boothferry Road.
The £37m investment would enlarge the existing community, which currently features 80 luxury homes, bringing the total number of properties to 249. The proposed new phase includes a variety of one, two, three and four-bedroom properties, encompassing terraced, semi-detached and detached homes, as well as bungalows.
Beal says it would offer “options for first-time buyers, families and downsizers alike”. If given the go-ahead, the housebuilder aims to have the first homes ready for residents to move into from early 2027.
The proposed development is situated on a site earmarked for housing under the East Riding of Yorkshire Council Local Plan. It has been designed with traditional materials to blend in with the surrounding area, and architectural detailing has been incorporated to add visual interest.
A circular road layout within the site has been designed to allow continuous flow around the development, which it is hoped would reduce congestion and improving connectivity. The plans also include paths and connections to dedicated cycle lanes on Boothferry Road.
Vehicle access is proposed via a new connection to Holmes Croft to the south of the site, linking with the first phase of Pilgrims Walk. An additional access point is also proposed at the south-eastern corner, to provide a direct connection to Boothferry Road.
The planning application includes proposals for landscaping, public open space and associated infrastructure as well. The plans for landscaping are intended to reinforce and enhance the natural features around the site, with existing trees and hedgerows retained and integrated into the development wherever possible.
The main entrance into the site from Boothferry Road is proposed to be lined with newly-planted trees and flanked by large areas of native planted grasslands. Informal woodland walkways are also proposed to thread through the areas of landscaping.
Beal land director Chris Murphy said: “Our Pilgrims Walk development has been extremely popular, which is no surprise given that Hessle is a very attractive place to live. It’s a desirable suburban area, with excellent local amenities. It’s also located on the western side of Hull, close to open countryside while offering easy and rapid access to the city, Beverley and beyond, via the road network.
“For all these reasons, demand for new homes in the area is very strong. That’s why we’re excited to put forward these plans to expand the Pilgrims Walk community and give people further opportunities to own a high-quality home in this sought-after area.
“Housing in the Hessle area is particularly varied and this is reflected in the mix of property types we have proposed. This ranges from bungalows, ideal for older people looking for an accessible home enabling them to maintain their independence, up to four bedroom-detached properties perfect for family life.”
