The first of a special two-parter will be launched next month
A film launch is set to take place in Hull, giving people a look back over decades of the city’s past. Hull Civic Society and Octovision Media are collaborating in the project.
“Hull Through The Decades” is a special look-back to how Hull has changed in the past 60 years. On Friday, November 7, the finished first instalment of the film will be shown and copies available to buy in DVD format (or to order on memory stick), at St Matthew’s Church, Boulevard. The event starts at 2.30pm and it is free entry.
Ian Wolstencroft is a committee member at Hull Civic Society, which was formed 60 years ago, in the same year that saw the demise of the city’s trolleybuses and the closure of the Hull to Hornsea/Withernsea rail links. He said: “We start with stunning drone footage around Hull from Octovision Media; then we take a journey down memory lane to the 1960s, with rare archive film of the city centre, Hull trolleybuses in their prime, ride a train to Hornsea and back, plus the fishing industry, it’s all here.”
Hull Through The Decades will include:
- 1970s – Decimalisation, what we had/owned, with many nostalgic pictures
- 1980s – All change with pedestrianisation, new roads and the opening of the Humber Bridge by Queen Elizabeth II in 1981
- 1990s – New shopping centre Princes Quay, a cruise up the River Hull, with five bridges opening
- 2000 to 2025 – City of Culture years, opening of St Stephen’s Shopping Centre and lots more
