An investigation has been launched by Humberside Police

A Hull Uber driver said two of his passengers were left shaken when he said a group on e-bikes began to damage the car last Saturday night. He claims the “hooligans” ended up smashing the rear window of the car as they chased it through Anlaby.

The driver, who did not want to be named, called Humberside Police, who sent out two cars. He told Hull Daily Mail: “When this incident occurred, I had two older passengers in the car, they must have been in their sixties.

“The amount of distress it caused the lady in the back of the car, I feel so bad about that. My aim was to keep them as safe as possible.

“I kept on circling the area while we had the police on the phone. I called the police while the incident was happening.”

He added: “The police sent out a couple of cars at the time it happened, I saw one of the cars.” The Uber driver claims the youths “cut through a little path to escape the police”.

The Uber driver said aggressive young people disguised in balaclavas were a frequent issue for people who drive at night. “These hooligans are going around on the bikes in full camouflage gear,” he said. “They are in black head-to-toe, with balaclavas on.”

He said they are difficult to see and they “use the cover of darkness” to carry out these acts. “We are coming into winter now, and their cover of darkness is going to get even longer,” he said.

“Everybody has got an issue with them. Every taxi driver I speak to, they all have got issues. It is a major safety concern. It is the nuisance they cause and the criminal damage.”

A spokesperson for Humberside Police said: “Officers are investigating reports of criminal damage to a vehicle driven along Springfield Way in Hull on Saturday (18 October 2025). At around 10.45pm we received a report that a group of teenagers on electric bikes were reportedly following a car and damaging its windscreen on Springfield Way, Anlaby.

“Thankfully, no one is believed to have been injured. Enquiries remain ongoing to identify those involved, and we would encourage anyone with information, CCTV, or dashcam footage from around the time of the incident to contact us via our non-emergency number 101, quoting log 602 of 18 October.

“Alternatively, if you wish to report anonymously, you can do so via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
