The former Hull KR playmaker has secured his future for 2026, remaining in Super League.

Danny Richardson says he is ready to build on consistency after a ‘difficult’ few seasons, having been confirmed as a York Knights player ahead of their first-ever Super League campaign.

The half-back left Hull KR at the conclusion of the 2025 season, spending the latter part of the year on loan with York under head coach Mark Applegarth.

He has now made the move on a permanent contract, with the North Yorkshire club to form part of an expanded 14-team Super League in 2026 alongside Toulouse Olympique. Bradford Bulls will also replace Salford Red Devils under IMG’s latest rankings.

“The last few years have been particularly difficult in terms of consistency. I’m ready to lock in and have a year of being injury free with no distractions,” said the 29-year-old.

“York is a club that is building for the future and I am proud to take part in that.

“Since joining the club at the back end of the year, Mash [Applegarth], the players and coaching staff have welcomed me with open arms – making the transition easy.

“I’m looking forward to hitting the ground running on the first day of pre season.”

Richardson made four appearance for the Robins in 2025, having made the move from Castleford Tigers. He also spent time on loan with Huddersfield Giants and Salford Red Devils across the season, before suffering an ankle injury.

On his latest recruit, adding more than 100 games worth of Super League experience, York boss Applegarth said: “Getting Danny onboard permanently is massive for us.

“I think he’s an out and out Super League half-back and we’ve got great competition now in the halves with what we’ve got available to us.

“He slotted in seamlessly when he came in from Hull KR on loan for the remainder of the year, offering us cover in case we got an injury to our main pair then.

“I’m really looking forward to that competition. It’s going to bring out the best in Liam and Ata so I think it’s just an exciting time to be a York fan with them available to us.”
