The Love Island winner will take the lead role in Legally Blonde The Musical
Strictly celebrity dancer Amber Davies has her sights set on Hull as she prepares to star in a show in the city. Amber, currently partnering dance professional Nikita Kuzmin in the 23rd series of BBC One’s hit show, is to take the lead role in the touring musical comedy, Legally Blonde The Musical.
Amber, 29, who won the 2017 series of ITV ’s Love Island, only stepped into the Strictly Come Dancing spotlight after Dani Dyer had to withdraw from the show after breaking her ankle. Welsh actress Amber debuted on Strictly’s first live show of the series, having only just started rehearsals with Nikita.
Since winning Love Island with her then-boyfriend Kem Cetinay, Amber has had roles in musical theatre, including in Pretty Woman, 9 to 5: The Musical, and also The Great Gatsby, in which she most recently originated the role of Jordan Baker in the London production. She said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be playing the iconic role of Elle Woods in this new production of Legally Blonde.
“As a huge fan of the film and the musical, this part is the role of a lifetime, and I am honoured to be stepping into Elle’s perfect heels. I am so excited to hit the road again.
“Get ready Harvard… This is gonna be just like senior year except for funner!” The show will run at Hull New Theatre from October 27 to 31, 2026 and tickets are on sale now from Hull City Hall Box Office, call 01482 300 306 or visit hulltheatres.co.uk
Amber starred as Vivian Ward in the UK tour of Pretty Woman; as Lorraine Baines in the West End production of Back to the Future The Musical and Campbell in Bring It On at London’s South Bank Centre. She made her professional theatre debut as Judy in the original West End cast of 9 to 5 the Musical at the Savoy Theatre, which she then continued to play on the UK tour.
While preparing for the role, she filmed a documentary for ITVBe, Amber and Dolly: 9 to 5, which involved her flying to Nashville to meet and interview Dolly Parton and followed her journey from auditions to opening night. Her TV credits include ITV’s Dancing on Ice, in which she was a semi-finalist, and Almost Never, CBBC/iPlayer.
The TV personality attributes her love of performing to watching Disney films and music videos and her introduction to West End was the Lion King, aged seven. At 16, Amber gained a scholarship to train in Musical Theatre and Dance for three years at the Urdang Academy in London.
Now Amber, who is also a podcaster, is set to play the famous Elle Woods in the ultimate feel-good rom com, based on the award-winning film. The show follows Elle on her transformation from “It Girl” fashionista to legal ace at Harvard Law School, all in the name of love.
Elle must prove she is more than blonde ambition, swap the changing rooms for the courtroom and learn that “being true to yourself never goes out of style”.
