Hull KR have responded humorously after Jared Waerea-Hargreaves ended his career in poetic style – a Grand Final winner and a four-match ban
The Kiwi icon was hit with two separate charges by the match review panel following Hull KR ’s 24-6 triumph over Wigan Warriors at Old Trafford to complete a historic treble.
The 36-year-old received a Grade B shoulder charge sanction and a Grade A other contrary behaviour, resulting in a four-match ban in total due to his penalty points tally.
Obviously, Waerea-Hargreaves will never serve the ban after retiring with a career swansong at the Theatre of Dreams, leaving his best Rovers performance until last with a standout display. His performance saw him earn Rob Burrow Award votes by members of the media in attendance on Saturday, while Mikey Lewis was crowned the new winner following his own influential performance in the victory.
“We can confirm we will not be contesting Jared Waerea-Hargreaves ban,” Hull KR jokingly shared on social media.
The legendary forward is days into his treble – and career – celebrations with the Robins, and is set to travel around Europe with his family before returning down under later in the year. In his one and only season in England, the Sydney Roosters great – reportedly set to return to the NRL club in a mentorship role – made 24 appearances under Willie Peters, helping Hull KR to the Challenge Cup, League Leaders’ Shield and Super League title.
