Hull KR are set to face Brisbane Broncos in the World Club Challenge and are considering hosting the game at the MKM Stadium

Hull KR are contemplating hosting the World Club Challenge at the MKM Stadium, with the Robins set to clash with Brisbane Broncos.

The Super League champions are expected to start discussions with their NRL counterparts and organisers early next week, but it’s almost certain that the game will proceed, with Brisbane eager to journey to the UK for the chance to be crowned world champions.

Rovers are also keen to participate in the match, which is scheduled to occur the day before they jet off to Las Vegas for their transatlantic showdown with Leeds Rhinos.

Discussions between the NRL and RL Commercial have been ongoing for a while, with a tentative date of Saturday, 21st February confirmed.

However, the venue for the match is currently under discussion. Insiders have told All Out Rugby League that the match will definitely take place within the city, but there’s a suggestion that it could be held at the MKM Stadium, home of Rovers’ arch-rivals Hull FC, due to its larger capacity compared to Sewell Group Craven Park, reports All Out Rugby League.

While playing the match on home turf has its appeal, moving the game across the city would allow more spectators to watch live and bring greater commercial opportunities. Plus, it would give them the chance to be named world champions on their rivals’ home ground.

A decision has yet to be made, with further talks set to happen in the coming days.

This will mark a historic first for Rovers, as they participate in the fixture for the first time. On the other hand, Brisbane, boasting a star-studded team including Reece Walsh and Payne Haas, are eyeing their third title in what will be their sixth appearance.
