City have been hampered by injuries to key players in the early weeks of the season

Hull City face another anxious wait to find out the extent of the calf problem which forced John Lundstram off just 14 minutes into Saturday’s 1-0 win over Sheffield United.

Lundstram, in his 499th career appearance, limped out of the action after a lengthy period of treatment at the MKM Stadium and was replaced by Amir Hadziahmetovic, who had been dropped to the bench for the 1-0 win over the Blades courtesy of David Akintola’s volley on the half-hour.

The former Blade looked in significant discomfort, and though he tried to run the issue off, Jakirovic was keen to avoid any unnecessary risks with the two-week international break now arrived and took him off.

That injury to the midfielder was the only negative on an afternoon which saw City claim a third home win of what has been a positive start to the new season, while Matt Crooks and Semi Ajayi both returned from long spells out of the team.

It’s hoped Lundstram will recover in time to face Birmingham City at St Andrew’s on October 18 in what would be a landmark personal occasion for the 31-year-old.

“He felt his calf in one duel, and then, for me I didn’t want to take a risk because we have options on the bench,” Jakirovic told Hull Live. “He couldn’t help us because of his injury. We will see (the prognosis) after the medical examination. We will see how big is his damage.”

City expect to welcome back Joel Ndala from a foot injury during the break in time to feature against the Blues, while Kyle Joseph will be fit. The striker felt unwell on Saturday morning and was unable to play. Kasey Palmer was not involved due to not being ‘ready’ according to Jakirovic and Brandon Williams is not viewed as ready for Championship action at the moment.
