A body has tragically been recovered from the River Hull. Police were called to attend Nelson Street, near the River Hull, following reports of a concern for safety of a man who had reportedly entered the water at around 1.35am yesterday morning (Sunday, October 5).
Alongside the coastguard and underwater search, officers were immediately deployed to the area and while completing initial searches, emergency services recovered a body from the water. A spokesperson for Humberside Police said: “Formal identification has now taken place, and this is confirmed to be missing man 41-year-old man Gary, who was last seen in Great Union Street in Hull on Saturday, September 20.
His family have been informed and are currently being supported by specialist trained officers at this difficult time.” The spokesperson said officers remained in and around the area conducting lines of enquiries to establish if the recovery of the man’s body and the reports of a concern for safety were linked.
“Following a detailed review of CCTV footage that covered the area where a man is reported to have entered the water, we can confirm at this time, there is no evidence of this taking place,” the spokesperson said.
“We would always encourage anyone who is concerned to contact police, as the report received was with good intent, and we will always look to protect the public and ensure their safety.”
