City head to Vicarage Road this weekend, eyeing a first away success

John Egan has praised the impact of new Hull City head coach Sergej Jakirovic as the Tigers look to win back-to-back games for the first time in 12 months.

Saturday’s thumping 3-1 win over promotion hopefuls Southampton backed up a solid, deserved 2-2 draw at Swansea City, which saw Egan thump in the stoppage-time equaliser.

A second home win in three games catapulted City to within two points of the top six at this early juncture in the campaign, and they now head to Watford looking to secure a rare feat.

Egan, who arrived in January under the guidance of Ruben Selles, has become a firm fixture in the heart of the Tigers’ back four since Semi Ajayi sustained a hamstring injury after the opening day draw at Coventry City, and says he’s been really impressed with what he’s seen from the Croatian head coach.

“It’s good,” Egan said of life under Jakirovic. “He’s a good manager and his staff, they’re really good in the training ground; he’s a good man as well and a good man-manager.

“Listen, he wants us to improve as well and as players, we can be open with him, Marco (Salatovic), Dean (Holden), and the coaching staff. We can have conversations about things.

“I really enjoy playing for him. I think all the lads will say the same, he’s a really good man and a good manager, and hopefully we can keep doing well, keep doing good work on the training ground and keep improving.”
