Current owners Tim Hancher and Katherine Furmidge have run the venue for 12 years

A much loved restaurant in Bridlington Old Town is on the market but remains open. The Lamp – which takes its name from the Victorian gas lap in its rear courtyard – is being offered for sale on a freehold basis, with a £200,000 asking price.

The 40 cover restaurant has earned rave reviews for its classic British dishes including Sunday lunches, steak, ale and mushroom casserole and prawn cocktails. The eatery is among the top rated venues in Bridlington on TripAdvisor, and has been owned by Tim Hancher and Katherine Furmidge since 2013.

They said: “After twelve fantastic years trading at The Lamp, where we have built up a loyal following of amazing customers, we now feel the time is right to move on, to allow us to concentrate on other business interests. We will be continuing to trade as normal until a sale completes.”

The Lamp is situated in a 1,100 sqft, Grade II-listed building on the town’s High Street and includes two spacious dining rooms and its outdoor courtyard with seating. It also comes with a three bedroom owners’ accommodation on the first and second floors.

Agents at Christie & Co say the restaurant benefits from high passing footfall and excellent transport connections, with nearby independent shops, cafes, galleries and pubs. They say new owners could expand on the restaurant’s current offering or introduce a new concept.

Recent reviews of the venue remark on the quality of its food and as a destination for special occasions and celebrations. One recent customer said: “What a wonderful restaurant situated in the old town of Bridlington the restaurant is steeped in history and nostalgia. The team are so friendly, hard working, nothing is too much trouble. The food is divine, we had the slow roast belly pork, and featherblade beef, mouthwatering, tender and accompanied by very tasty seasonal veg.

“The ginger pudding and crème brule finished off the evening with a taste that will last until we return again. Thank you to The Lamp team, you made our visit feel very special, my 91 year-old dad has 86 years of fond memories of Brid, and in particular the old town. See you next time.”

Another said: “As always the service and food was outstanding. Starters of soup, salmon and prawn cocktail and crispy duck with black pudding and salad were amazing. Two of us opted for the lamb shank, the other two choosing the beef featherblade and the venison, all accompanied by veg and served in delicious sauces.

“Far too full for a sweet but the Irish coffees finished the meal off nicely. A bottle of red and a bottle of white wine both of which were top quality. £233 for a fabulous experience. Do treat yourself and enjoy top food in a quality establishment, highly recommended.”

Alex Rex, associate director at Christie & Co, is managing the sale process and said: “I am delighted to have been given the opportunity to work with Tim and Katherine to find a new owner for this fantastic restaurant. Freehold opportunities with accommodation don’t come up often in Bridlington so we expect to receive a high level of interest.”
