Hull City summer signing Reda Laalaoui has joined Westerlo on a permanent deal after his hopes of joining the Championship club were dashed. Laalaoui thought he had become City’s first summer signing when he joined from Fath Union Sport in late June, but his move was thrown into doubt when the club were hit by EFL sanctions a few days later. City’s transfer fee ban meant they were unable to pay any money for new signings, which basically ended any hope of their £400,000 deal for the Moroccan youngster, and he was left in a degree of limbo. The 20-year-old midfielder stayed with the Tigers and was part of the travelling party at Riva during the club’s pre-season training camp, though he was unable to take part due to injury. He had remained in Hull in the early weeks of the season as the club tried to renegotiate a loan agreement in a bid to keep him at the MKM Stadium, but that has not been possible, and he’s now joined the Belgian club on a permanent deal until summer 2029. It’s not the first time City have done business with the Belgian outfit before, having sold Allahyar Sayyadmanesh two years ago. They also tried to sign striker Matija Frigan before their transfer fee ban was imposed, though he’s since moved to Serie A side Parma and picked up an ACL injury.
