October is here and the sights, sounds and smells of Hull Fair are getting ever closer. The annual extravaganza on Walton Street car park gets underway on Friday, October 10 but, being one of Europe’s largest travelling funfairs, it takes a lot of time and work to put it all together before opening night.
The world-famous fair, initially a market, received its first Royal Charter in 1279 and evolved into the entertainment-based event it is today. This year’s fair will open at 5pm on the first Friday and run every day until 11pm until Saturday, October 18 inclusive – except, of course, for Sunday, October 12.
Aside from the opening night, on weekdays it will open at 2pm and on the Saturdays it will open from noon.
Many of the favourite attractions and stalls are expected along with a few new things we may not have seen at the fair before.
Our photographer, Donna Clifford, has been to Walton Street to see the arrival of Hull Fair as the countdown to opening night continues.
