Bridlington Ice Trail will guide visitors through a selection of icy spectacles
Bridlington Ice Trail is set to make a comeback next month with displays that are “certain to be real crowd pleasers”. It will feature traditional Christmas scenes as well as maritime wonders, reflecting the East Yorkshire town’s rich coastal heritage.
Visitors will be guided through the heart of Bridlington by a magical trail, featuring an array of icy spectacles. The free event is set to take place over the weekend of November 15 and 16.
The sculptures can be seen from 11am on both days. They will be taken down at 5.30pm on the Saturday and 3.30pm on the Sunday.
As well as the displays, there will also be live ice carving, with a sculptor creating a stunning Yuletide masterpiece from a massive block of ice. This captivating glacial art carving will take place over both days, starting around 12 noon and taking two to three hours to complete.
Fire and ice shows will occur twice daily on both days, featuring ice sculpting using chainsaws and power tools, synchronised with a pyrotechnic display set to music. Over the weekend, the Bridlington Christmas Food Festival will also be held on King Street.
Councillor Nick Coultish, East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s cabinet member for culture, leisure and tourism, said: “We are delighted to have secured funding from the UK Government to bring this charming event back to Bridlington for another exciting year.
“The ice displays are certain to be real crowd pleasers, drawing on a festive theme and shedding light on the coastal town, rich with culture and history.”
Families will also have the opportunity to visit Santa’s Grotto on the Saturday, meeting Father Christmas on his sleigh.
As the event approaches, the website will offer a downloadable Ice Trail map to keep everyone on the right track.
