The Tigers claimed an impressive scalp against the Saints with a terrific home display

Hull City’s 95th-minute concession against Southampton left head coach Sergej Jakirovic less than impressed, despite his side’s fine 3-1 win over the promotion favourites.

City were 3-0 up and cruising against one of last season’s relegated Premier League outfits, thanks to goals from Kyle Joseph, John Lundstram and Oli McBurnie, before Armstrong’s terrific turn and finish in the final moments of Saturday’s contest.

The Tigers, who have had no shortage of defensive issues in the early weeks of the season, looked to be on course for a second clean sheet of the season before Southampton’s consolation strike took that away.

That left Jakirovic unhappy, as the Croatian boss revealed how important a clean sheet would have been for goalkeeper Ivor Pandir and the defensive unit in front of him.

“It’s very important, and this is why I was very angry that we conceded this goal,” he told Hull Live. “It’s very important, a clean sheet.

“It’s very important for Ivor, for his self-confidence, because right now he’s not having much luck. Every shot or attempt on our goal is on target; it’s like a goal. So this is very important. This is also what the team needs to help him with. This is the reason why I was angry. OK, I cannot be angry when you watch the whole game, 3-1 result against Southampton.

“They will fight for promotion for sure in the top six, so it’s a very big win for us, especially in this moment when we have five points and I missed three points.”
