The hotel’s entrance would be at the former Yorkshire Bank branch
Plans to transform part of Hull’s Prospect Centre into a 71 room hotel have been submitted to Hull City Council. The hotel would be established in a part of the shopping centre that is currently used as offices.
The proposed hotel would be formed in the northern most section of the shopping centre on the corner of Prospect Street and Brook Street. The entrance would be in the corner of the building which has been vacant since the closure of the Yorkshire Bank branch in 2020.
The 71 rooms would be spread across three storeys. Plans explain there would be eight rooms on the first floor, 18 rooms on the second floor, and 45 on the third floor.
No designated parking facilities are included in the planning application, which seeks to change the site’s use from offices to hotel. Plans say that the lack of parking is facilities to “due to its central location and proximity to both the Paragon Interchange and the Docks.”
As the number of rooms in the proposed hotel is 71, plans explain that the application falls beneath the threshold for which a Transport Statement would be required, which is 75 rooms. Bike parking will be provided on site.
In addition to the conversion of the site into a hotel, plans say: “The proposals involve external works at first and second floor levels to the Prospect Street and Brook Street elevations of this block.” The main aim of the external work will be to make alterations to building’s windows.
The proposed hotel is just one of a number of developments and proposals taking place along Prospect Street. For example the council recently approved plans for Prospect House to be converted into 45 apartments.
Also on Prospect Street, the former Debenhams building seems set for a much-needed facelift after having been empty since its closure 2021.
