Barclays bank have confirmed the branch at Queen Victoria Square in Hull city centre is soon to close.

Question marks over the branch’s future were raised when the bank submitted plans to Hull City Council for a new branch at 21-23 King Edward Street, less than 100 yards away from their current location.

Barclays have now confirmed to Hull Live that their branch at Queen Victoria Square (1-5 King Edward Street) will close at midnight on Friday, August 22 ahead of the bank’s relocation to their new branch further down King Edward Street.

The new site at 21-23 King Edward Street is set to open on Monday, September 1, leaving residents without a Barclays in the city centre for over a week. The bank has said that whilst the relocation takes place, everyday transactions can be completed at any Post Office. There are also several free-to-use ATMs, with the nearest located at Virgin Money, 10-12 Paragon Street, Hull HU1 3ND.

A Barclays spokesperson told Hull Live: “We are moving our Hull branch to improved premises on Monday 1 September 2025. Our new branch will have better disability access, improved meeting rooms and at least one cash machine available 24 hours a day.

“Barclays is committed to providing a modern banking experience for our customers and clients and we look forward to welcoming our customers to the new branch at Hull.”
