Hull City have terminated the contract of João Pedro with immediate affect as the forward becomes the latest player to depart the club. The 33-year-old Brazilian had not been expected to stick around for next season, with the announcement of his departure having been expected since the conclusion of last season.

Signed as a free agent on an initial one-year deal with an option of a further year, he played 36 games in a difficult campaign for the Tigers, scoring six goals in a side that struggled up top, with a further two assists.

The former Fenerbahce and Cagliari player had been keen to move on himself, with the club happy to allow him to leave by not activating the second year of his deal. The decision leaves City desperately short on options up front, with the club set for a key summer of recruitment.

New head coach Sergej Jakirovic will arrive at the club next week ahead of the start of pre-season training the following week, with a lot of work to be done to ensure he has a squad in place before the start of the season.

Confirming Pedro’s exit in a short statement, City wished the player well, stating: “We would like to thank João for his contribution during his time at the MKM Stadium and wish him well for the future.”
