As part of his monumental impact on Hull KR, Willie Peters has consistently instilled a ‘next job’ mentality in his side.
While the memories of Wembley will last a lifetime, Rovers have firmly refocused, putting their historic Challenge Cup victory aside to concentrate on the Super League task at hand.
Supporters enjoyed one final celebration with the prestigious Challenge Cup trophy on Friday, but Peters’ outfit wanted to ensure they had earned that moment in front of a record home crowd at Sewell Group Craven Park.
They showed no signs of a cup hangover after crushing an ill-disciplined Catalans Dragons 68-6 less than a week after their triumph in the capital.
Challenge Cup hero Tom Davies opened the scoring in the Super League Round 14 tie, and the points then flowed freely with a 12-try display. The result inflicted Catalans’ heaviest-ever defeat in the competition.
The win maintained Rovers’ domestic form at the top of the Super League table, while Wigan pulled off a last-gasp victory over Huddersfield Giants to again close the gap to two points.
Hull KR’s next task is a trip to Castleford Tigers, who recently earned a fourth win of the season after beating Hull FC at the MKM Stadium. Meanwhile, in-form Davies reiterated Hull KR’s mentality.
He said: “We set our standards at the start of the season on what we wanted to achieve, and we’ve managed to get one there which is brilliant and we’ve celebrated that.
“But we’re focusing on the next job now and cracking on with the rest of the season.
“One-to-17, whoever is in that group and is playing, just puts it all on the line. I’m very proud of all of them.”
