He was a guest of Hull as far back as 2002 when the pin-up pop singer entertained the crowds at the Feel The Noise Live gig in East Park, in the heat of the summer.
Gareth Gates, who first sprang to prominence when he was runner-up in ITV ’s Pop Idol that same year, starred in the region’s biggest pantomime 20 years later when he appeared on the Hull New Theatre stage in the title role of Jack and the Beanstalk. Now, the Noughties legend is on his way back to the city where he can be seen as you have never seen him before.
Gareth will be starring in the brand new show, Boyband in the Buff, at Hull City Hall. It will be a night when there will be so much going on, and coming off, on April 11, 2026.
The acclaimed singer and actor is to be joined by a cast of “ripped and ridiculously talented performers for the ultimate throwback concert”, say promoters. “With nothing but harmonies, dance moves, and a whole lot of skin, the boys belt out the biggest hits of the 90s and 00s, from Backstreet Boys to NSYNC, Blue to Take That, in a show that’s as nostalgic as it is naughty.”
Boyband in the Buff is described as “a celebration of pop, passion, and pecs, where the clothes come off and the heat turns up”. It is billed as the perfect night out for anyone who has ever swooned over a boyband, with Gareth as the ultimate pin-up.

The show comes with a tongue-in-cheek warning that it contains “tight harmonies and tighter pants … at least, for the first few numbers”.
