Vaccinations are being provided at two sessions
With flu in the national news and cases high everywhere, including Hull, parents and carers have a ‘final chance’ to get their child vaccinated. Two catch-up clinics are to be held, with both appointment bookings and walk-ins available.
An after-school session takes place this Wednesday, December 17, at The Deep, 3.30pm to 7pm. Appointments can be booked, or walk-ins are available 5pm to 6pm.
After Christmas, a clinic will be held at Priory Road Children’s Centre, from 9am to 3pm, with both appointments and walk-ins available. With in-school vaccination programmes now finished, the two sessions are a final chance for children to get their vaccine.
Following recent expansion of eligible groups, all children age two to their final year in secondary school (Year 11) can now have a free vaccine. Alison Patey, director of public health at Hull City Council, said: “Most parents and carers will have seen the national news stories about flu cases.
“Flu can be serious for anyone, and particularly for anyone with added vulnerability – this could include a medical condition, as well as being very young or old. While getting vaccinated doesn’t completely prevent someone getting flu, it very significantly reduces the chance of them becoming seriously ill.
“These two clinics are an opportunity to make sure children are vaccinated either before schools break up and the festive period truly begins, or as schools go back. Typically, we see a peak in cases around January, so I would urge anyone who missed the chance in school, or home educates, to book an appointment or drop in.”
Clinics take place on the following dates:
- Wednesday, December 17 – The Deep Business Centre, 3.30pm to 7pm; drop-in, 5pm to 6pm
