The first grants from a £1m community fund have been handed out.
Hull and East Yorkshire Mayor Luke Campbell announced the funding in August, but was criticised by local politicians questioning whether the money had been officially approved by the Combined Authority Executive Board.
Campbell responded that he had the power to start the fund as only projects over £1m had to be approved by the board.
The mayor said: “The Community Fund is all about making a difference for people in Hull and East Yorkshire.”
Campbell added: “I want to build strong communities that improve people’s health, wellbeing and resilience.
“These projects already have such a positive impact, and I can’t wait to see the difference this funding will make.”
According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, the first three grants have gone to the Coniston Village hall, which will get £5,000 to upgrade its kitchen.
Rewilding Youth CIC gets £10,000 towards encouraging young people to connect with nature, while Ladled with Love receives £5,000 to provide meals to people facing hardship.
