Plans for a new development housing 15 retirement apartments in Bridlington have been approved by East Riding Council. The development will be built on St John Street in the coastal town.
A building on the site, which formerly housed West Building Supplies Ltd. is to be demolished to make way for the development. Submitted documents show an image believed to be taken in the late 19th or early 20th century of the building. The image shows a sign on the building which reads “Priory Church Institute, 1884.”
Developers initially hoped to build a site capable of housing 26 apartments in a three-storey block. Plans explain that after feedback from planning officers the concept was scaled back.
The revised, and now approved, plans are for 15 one-bed units in a two-storey building. The building is to be L-shaped with a courtyard in the centre.

The apartments will be available to those over 60 years old. The site will include landscaped areas and car parking provision next to the courtyard. Access to the car park comes directly from St John Street itself.
The granting of the planning permission has included the signing of an S106 agreement. The developer will pay the sum of £146,100 in an affordable housing contribution, among other payments.
