The 29-year-old is back in contention for the Tigers
Oli McBurnie’s return to Hull City’s squad is a massive boost, according to ex-Tigers star Michael Dawson, as the Scotland international prepares to mark his return against Wrexham on Wednesday night.
McBurnie was back on the City bench on Friday night after an eight-game absence and watched his side thrashed 4-1 by Middlesbrough.
The influential striker wasn’t risked with boss Sergej Jakirovic admitting his place on the bench was as much to boost his confidence as anything else, but will almost certainly get a lengthy spell on the pitch when City look to end a two-game losing streak at the MKM Stadium against Phil Parkinson’s men who are nine ganes unbeaten.
“It’s a massive boost,” Dawson told Sky Sports. “He was in great form before he picked up the injury, so he was a big miss, but they’ve managed to deal with it. I’m surprised there weren’t more clubs for him in the summer.
“He went abroad, and then he came back, and he was probably waiting for an opportunity. Was he going to go back to Sheffield United? They probably look in hindsight and thought we probably should have taken him. He’s settled in there, great for Hull to have him back involved.
“He’s a big physical striker, lets you know you’re up against it. He plays between the posts; he wants to score goals. It was a shrewd signing. Someone who knows the Championship, someone who will manage the dressing room.”
