City will hope to finally enjoy the magic of the cup next month, albeit against Championship opposition
Hull City will take on Championship rivals Blackburn Rovers at the MKM Stadium in the third round of the FA Cup, after another underwhelming draw for Tigers fans.
City had to wait until the 23rd tie to be drawn by Joe Cole and Peter Crouch, with Sergej Jakirovic’s men at home to Rovers, with that expected to take place on January 10.
It’ll be the second time the Tigers have faced Rovers at the MKM Stadium this season, having faced the Lancashire outfit back in August.
City’s squad was under the weather that day, with Rovers winning 3-0 to inflict a first Championship defeat on Jakirovic and the Tigers.
Shortly after that clash in East Yorkshire early in the New Year, the pair are scheduled to meet in the Championship at Ewood Park on January 30, to end the first month of 2026.
The pair last met in the FA Cup at Ewood Park in the third round in January 2018, with Ola Aina scoring the solitary goal just before the hour to seal a 1-0 win for the Tigers.
Should City finally win a third-round tie, they’ll be awarded £121,500, with losers getting £26,500. That rises to £127,000 in round four and then increases incrementally round-by-round. Games broadcast on BBC, TNT or Discovery+ in the second round were also worth an extra £50,000.
Between now and the game over the second weekend in January, the Tigers face the following games…
Wednesday: Wrexham – H
Saturday: Millwall – A
December 20: West Brom – H
December 26: Sheffield Wednesday – A
December 29: Middlesbrough – A
January 1: Stoke City – H
January 4: Watford – H
