The Tigers are still reeling from their Friday night fiasco against Boro

Hull City have been rocked by yet another major injury blow with the news that John Lundstram is set for another spell on the sidelines, just days after returning.

Lundstram has sustained a knee injury in training, which could keep him sidelined for the next two to three weeks, and he now faces a race against time to feature in the Tigers’ crucial Christmas period.

The experienced midfielder had only made his return after a nine-game absence with a calf injury at Stoke City last Saturday, coming off the bench in the 2-1 win.

One of City’s influential summer signings missed Friday night’s 4-1 thrashing at the MKM Stadium by Middlesbrough, and the news has come as a hammer blow to the Tigers and boss Sergej Jakirovic.

“John slipped in one training session, and he felt the back of his knee,” Jakirovic told Hull Live. “It was his PCL. It’s like an extension, and I think for two or three weeks he will be out.

“Yes, it’s a shame, but what can we do now? At least we have Liam Millar, Mo Belloumi and Oli McBurnie back. In the midfield, we have Darko (Gyabi), Amir (Hadziahmetovic), Regan Slater, and Matt Crooks, so we will see now for Wednesday.”

There was also some concern over Joe Gelhardt, who scored City’s consolation from the penalty spot to hit the 10-goal mark, after he limped off with what Jakirovic says was a kick to the calf. “He got one kick in the calf, I think. I don’t know now what his condition is, we will see, but I hope he’s OK.”

On a positive note, however, the Tigers were able to welcome back Liam Millar and Oli McBurnie to the fold after their respective spells out. Millar got on the pitch in the second half, while McBurnie was an unused substitute and is expected to make his return against Wrexham in midweek.
