The turbines would have a maximum height of 35 feet

Plans for the installation of 10 wind turbines between Kingswood and Beverley have been submitted to East Riding Council. The council are to consider a planning application seeking permission for ‘micro wind turbines’ to be installed north of Wawne.

The plans would see the turbines, which would have a maximum height of 10.8 metres (35 feet), installed on land at Carr House Farm, off Drove Lane. The turbines would be in a field to the east of the lane and to the south of the farmhouse and farm buildings.

Planning documents explain that in 2023, the council gave planning permission for solar panels to be installed at the site which are now said to be operational. The documents also explain the applicant’s ambition “to connect the wind turbines to the same point of connection, so that they will maintain renewable energy generation during times when the solar panels are not generating.”

The 10 turbines would be arranged in two parallel rows of 5. As each turbine would be able to generate up to 5 kW, the scheme as a whole could deliver up to 50 kW when running at full capacity, plans state.

Overall, the scheme would cover an area of 137 metres by 68 metres. The majority of this area would however be undeveloped land between the turbines.

The turbines would have a rotor diameter of 5.6 metres and sit on an 8 metre galvanised steel pole. They would also each have a 4 metre long stabilising fin at the rear which would ensure they face into the wind for maximum efficiency.
