An MP says he will meet with representatives from Cash Access UK, a not-for-profit company funded by major high street banks, to look at options for future cash services in an East Yorkshire town.
It comes after Lloyds Bank announced that its branch in St Augustine’s Gate, Hedon, would close on 28 January 2026, leaving the town with no bank.
Graham Stuart, the Conservative MP for Beverley and Holderness, said it was important to have physical banking facilities.
The meeting is due to take place on Thursday.
Stuart has long campaigned for a banking hub in the town – a shared space that provides basic banking services for multiple high street banks in communities where branch closures have occurred.
A petition started by the MP has amassed more than 2,000 signatures.
Link, the organisation that assesses which communities would benefit from a banking hub, initially recommended services should be run from the town’s Post Office, which Stuart said “simply isn’t suitable”.
But, following an appeal, Link said it would review its initial decision.
“The good news is Link did think again,” Stuart said, adding that he was hopeful of securing a positive outcome for local residents and businesses.
