The missing 24-year-old’s family say they will ‘post a proper update when we are ready’

The family of a vulnerable man who has been missing for 11 days have told the community to stop searching, saying “new information” has now come to light. The search for Sam, 24, was sparked soon after he disappeared, having last been seen at 11am on Thursday, November 6, in the Holderness Road area of Hull.

His worried mum Helen has previously told Hull Live how she has been doing all she can to trace him, launching social media pages to aid the family’s search, and leaving food and water care packages out for him around Hull, in the hope he would find one. Meanwhile, the community has rallied round, joining the search for Sam, leading to a number of possible sightings.

Now, however, Sam’s family have issued an update on the Finding Sam social media page, asking people to stop searching.

The statement says: “Thank you everyone over the past 11 days who has aided in us searching for Sam. We would greatly appreciate if anyone currently searching could stop due to some new information which has come to light. We as a family are all thankful for everyone’s shares, comments and well wishes.

“We will post a proper update when we are ready to and would appreciate you could respect our privacy.”

The update comes a day after Humberside Police released new information in the form of CCTV footage. The force said it is appealing to find the two potential witnesses in the footage, captured on the day the 24-year-old went missing.

Chief Inspector Owen Stafford, who is leading the search said: “The footage shows two individuals walking along the rear of Ocean Boulevard on Victoria Dock promenade in Hull at around the same time Sam was last seen. This location is approximately a two-minute walk from Axholme Court on Plimsoll Way, where Sam was captured on CCTV at around 12.10pm that day (Thursday, 6 November).

“We are appealing for these individuals to come forward as they may have vital information that could assist us. We are also keen to speak to anyone who may have been walking along Victoria Dock promenade between Plimsoll Way and Ocean Boulevard between 12.10pm and 12.30pm on Thursday, 6 November.
