‘Dogs bring so much joy and bring people together, so I wanted to share my experience of this with others through my calendar’

A Beverley man has created a charity calendar to help raise money for Young Lives vs Cancer. Tim Hart regularly befriends and photographs dogs while on his daily walk.

So much so that he’s become known locally as ‘The Treat Man’. Tim always makes sure that his pockets are filled with treats for when he encounters his furry friends around Beverley Beck.

So far, Tim has raised £2,065 for the charity and will be continuing to sell the dog calendar in the lead up to New Year. Tim’s mission to raise funds has been down to his own personal experiences.

Back in December 2021, Tim was diagnosed with cancer. While he is now cancer-free, he personally knows what challenges come with a diagnosis. It is through his own experiences that his passion for fundraising to support children and young people with cancer began.

Tim said: “Cancer is awful at any age, but the thought of children and young people having to go through this is just unimaginable. I know how much of a difference the support from Young Lives vs Cancer has on young people with cancer and their families, so I wanted to do something to help make sure their support can continue.

“Dogs bring so much joy and bring people together, so I wanted to share my experience of this with others through my calendar. I am so grateful for all the support that the local community has shown so far in helping raise these vital funds for Young Lives vs Cancer. I’m really proud to be a part of ‘Team Young Lives’ and proud to be a part of a community that are all working together to support such a worthy cause.”

Young Lives vs Cancer said that last year they helped 493 young people with cancer and families in Yorkshire get the support they needed. According to the charity, families of a child with cancer have to pay out £700 extra a month on extra costs such as travel, food and clothing, on average.

To help families cope with the costs of cancer, the charity gave out 357 financial grants to the value of £56,391 to young people and families across Yorkshire. Krissa Ford, Fundraising and Engagement Manager for the South, West and East Yorkshire region at Young Lives vs Cancer, said: “Thank you Tim for creating such an incredible calendar to help raise money for Young Lives vs Cancer.

“The money raised will help us continue to support children and young people with cancer and their families from the moment of diagnosis. We rely on charitable donations to fund our work supporting children and young people facing cancer and their families across the UK. It is because of amazing people, like Tim, supporting us that we are able to ensure that families don’t have to face cancer alone.”

Anyone who wants to purchase a calendar can contact Tim directly on timhart5@sky.com. Calendars are £10 each with all money raised being donated to Young Lives vs Cancer in their entirety.
