A number of motorists have complained of congestion during peak times with lengthy delays and tailbacks

East Riding Of Yorkshire Council is considering a review of traffic issues around Anlaby Retail Park. Drivers have raised concerns about occasional traffic “nightmares” on Springfield Way and other roads close to the shopping area.

Members of the Hull Daily Mail’s Hull Traffic and Travel Facebook group described severe congestion caused by traffic going in and out the retail park last weekend. The volume of traffic visiting the shopping area, which last week welcomed a new George concept store, is causing “chaos” on surrounding roads during peak periods, according to residents.

On Sunday, November 2, a member of the Facebook group posted: “Avoid Anlaby Retail Park, traffic is an absolute nightmare.” The post received 45 comments, many of which were other users sharing their struggles navigating the area near the retail park.

One of the comments suggested traffic had been queuing back to the Haltemprice roundabout, more than half a mile away from the retail park. Another commenter said: “It’s a ridiculous car park at the best of times.”

Some in the group have suggested the congestion can be explained by the design of the car park and access roads. One comment argued the access roads “should have been designed with two separate in and out” routes.

Despite Sunday being “the worst ever,” for congestion in the area according to one commenter, others feared the issues will recur. One said: “It’s going to get worse with Christmas looming.”

The retail park first opened more than 15 years ago and has gradually increased in size, with additional units added over time. It was built on the site of the former Harlands printers which closed its site off Springfield Way in 2001.

In response to concerns, a spokesperson for East Riding of Yorkshire Council told the Hull Daily Mail: “We are aware of traffic congestion issues around Anlaby Retail Park. The location has been identified for potential review, and any improvement measures would be considered as part of future transport planning and prioritisation processes, in consultation with the local community, businesses, residents, road users, local councillors.”

The Hull Daily Mail has also contacted the managers of the retail park, Workman LLP, for comment.
