Hull City Council has announced plans to strengthen a city flyover to ensure its future over the next 100 years.
The authority said the Sutton Road flyover – which crosses over the Trans Pennine Trail – between Leads Road and Gillshill Road – played a vital role in Hull’s transport network.
To support the project, the council has appointed Mason Clark Associates to undertake preliminary work, with strengthening work expected to start once this has been completed.
Councillor Mark Ieronimo, portfolio holder for transport and infrastructure, said the project was part of “our wider commitment to fixing the city’s infrastructure”.
He added the scheme would add 120 years of life to the structure, making it “reliable for years to come”.
Andy Thompson, director of bridges at Mason Clark Associates, said: “Our team is committed to extending the life of the Sutton Road flyover, ensuring it continues to serve the people of Hull.”
