City’s injury troubles have been well-documented in recent weeks and show no sign of easing
Hull City’s players will rally around Liam Millar as he faces up to another spell on the sidelines, having just returned from almost a year out, says Semi Ajayi.
Millar started his first game in almost 12 months last Tuesday night and inspired City to an impressive 2-1 win over Leicester City, and barely 48 hours later, he was celebrating the birth of his daughter, Summer.
The Canadian star then came off the bench in the second half of Saturday’s draw against former club Charlton Athletic, but had to be withdrawn with a hamstring injury, which is now set to keep him sidelined for at least the next month in what is another cruel blow to Millar, and City, who must do without one of their most influential attacking outlets.
Hamstring problems are common following ACL surgery, with City already losing Mo Belloumi after he returned earlier this season before succumbing to the issue, and Ajayi says the dressing room will do what they can to support him through his latest spell of rehab.
“Liam’s a strong boy, mentally, it’ll be fine, hopefully the injury is not too bad. We’ll be there to support him and waiting for him to get back as soon as possible,” Ajayi told Hull Live.
“It’s always a risk with coming back from an ACL, doing your hamstrings. We know that’s part and parcel of it, and hopefully it’s not too bad and it’s only a minor injury, so we’ll see.”
Millar’s setback comes at a time when a flurry of Sergej Jakirovic’s key players are nursing injuries. Ajayi himself knows only too well about struggling with injuries, having missed much of the early campaign with a hamstring issue of his own.
“It’s the Championship, there’s so many games and I think injuries are part and parcel of it,” he continued. “I’m sure we’re not the only team that’s dealing with injuries, and it’s just down to us to rely on the strength of our squad, which we do have.
“For us, it’s just next man up, whoever’s called upon to come in and help the team. I’m sure they’ll do a really, really good job, and we’ll be waiting for the boys to recover from their injuries, but, in the meantime, we have to keep going. We have to keep pushing.”
On his own injury troubles, which have plagued him over the past 12 months or so, the Nigerian international says the hamstring is feeling good.
“I’m just happy to be back playing football,” Ajayi continued. “I think the injury is fully healed now. I feel really, really good in my body, and I’m just looking forward to kicking on for the rest of the season.”
