The work is expected to be completed by mid-November

Work is to begin on improving footpaths in East Park, Hull City Council has announced. The work will aim to make the paths safer and more even.

The improvement work will involve resurfacing and reconstructing areas of the footpaths which have deteriorated, whilst also improving existing drainage. The work, which will focus on the footpaths surrounding the lake and rugby field, is scheduled to begin on Monday, October 20 and is expected to be completed on Friday, November 14, weather depending.

The council has said the work will be done in three phases in order to reduce disruption. The timeframe for the work is as follows:

Phase one : Hurley Close link footpath (side of rugby field). Footpath closed to users between Monday, October 20 and Tuesday, November 4.

Phase two : Lake footpath at the rear of James Reckitt Avenue. Footpath closed to users between Monday, October 27 and Friday, November 7.

Phase three : Summergangs link footpath. Footpath closed to users between Tuesday, November 4 and Friday, November 14

Cllr Mark Ieronimo, the council’s portfolio holder for transport and infrastructure at Hull City Council, said: “East Park is a much-loved space for residents across Hull, and maintaining its accessibility and functionality is a top priority for us. This work will ensure the park’s footpaths remain safe, usable, and accessible for everyone. Investing in our city’s pavements and public spaces is one of my key priorities, so I’m pleased to see this project moving forward imminently.”

Cllr Rob Pritchard, portfolio holder for culture and leisure, added: “East Park is a popular green space which attracts thousands of visitors a year. This scheme will not only improve the look of the park but will ensure it remains a safe and enjoyable place for everyone to visit and enjoy. We would like to thank our park users for their patience and understanding while we carry out these works.”
