The Hull KR prop is now retired but has still been banned
Hull KR prop Jared Waerea-Hargreaves has brought his rugby league career to an end in poetic fashion after the no-nonsense prop was handed a four-match ban for two incidents in the Grand Final.
Two players have been suspended following the Super League Grand Final, with Wigan Warriors hooker Brad O’Neill also handed a two-game suspension after a Grade D dangerous throw charge.
The Hull KR prop enjoyed a career swansong at Old Trafford, helping the Robins to a treble in his sole season in Super League. He is set to return to Australia with his family in the coming weeks and will do so having never had to serve the four-match suspension he has been given.
Waerea-Hargreaves copped two separate charges following the Grand Final showdown. He has been charged with a Grade B shoulder charge, and a Grade A other contrary behaviour. The Kiwi great gave his best display in a Rovers shirt at Old Trafford, ending his career with a performance and a result befitting his career. The ban somehow also feels right given what has come before.
Wigan hooker O’Neill will be allowed to serve his suspension during next year’s pre-season, while he was not selected in Shaun Wane’s England Ashes squad. Warriors captain Liam Farrell also received two separate charges, and there was another for Adam Keighran.
