‘Everyone was clapping, it was beautiful’
A lucky Hull bingo player has scooped the jackpot in the National Bingo Game at the city’s Mecca venue. The shocked winner – who wants to stay anonymous, hit the jackpot on Saturday, September 27.
She is known to be a regular at the venue on Clough Road. The fabulous £50k jackpot is triggered when a player matches all the numbers on their ticket and claims a ‘full house’ within the first 16 numbers being called.
Sophie Marriott, was the caller on the game, and explained what happened on the night: “The winner was marking off the numbers on a paper ticket and when she shouted out to claim on the sixteenth number, my heart was going ten to the dozen. We checked her ticket and when I confirmed it was correct, the room was filled with excitement.
“I was so thrilled for her, I actually felt quite emotional. Everyone was clapping, it was beautiful.”
The lucky winner was enjoying a night out with friends when she hit the jackpot, and left the hall to ring her husband and tell him about her amazing win. “She just couldn’t believe it,” continued Sophie.
“I’ve been working at Mecca Bingo for six years, and this is the biggest win I’ve ever announced. I love my job – each day is different. I get to see regular faces and new people each week – it’s the customers who make it special.”
