She was ‘always putting everyone else before herself’
Tribute has been paid to a “wonderful” and “amazing” woman who tragically died after being hit by a car in Beverley. Kathleen Barron, 81, sadly died from her injuries on Saturday evening (December 20) following the incident the previous day.
Police say the collision involved a grey Land Rover Freelander on Norwood near the junction with Mill Lane. It happened at around 7.40am on Friday morning.
Paying tribute, her family said: “Kath was the centre of our family – a wonderful mum, our much loved ‘Baba’ to her three grandchildren, and a truly amazing sister.
“She spent her life caring for others, first as a nurse and later running her own care home, always putting everyone else before herself. Even at 81 she was full of energy, independent and always immaculate just how we all knew her.
“She loved animals, treasured her family, and loved by friends, neighbours and everyone who met her. Our hearts are completely broken, and we will miss her more than words can ever say.”
Kath’s family are being supported by specially-trained officers.
Humberside Police are continuing to appeal for any witnesses who have not yet spoken to them to get in touch. Anyone who witnessed the incident, or has CCTV or dashcam footage from the area, is asked to call 101 quoting log 73 of 19 December.
A 21-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving a motor vehicle while over the specified drug limit and causing serious injury by careless driving. He has since been released from custody pending further investigation.
