The Tigers head to Hillsborough for a big festive derby on December 26
Hull City will have a sold-out following behind them at Sheffield Wednesday on Boxing Day after Tigers fans snapped up all 3,900 tickets for the Yorkshire derby.
City will go into the 3pm showdown in the Steel City on the back of Saturday’s 1-0 win over West Brom, thanks to Oli McBurnie’s 10th goal of the season, which moved the Tigers fourth in the Championship going into Christmas Day.
Sergej Jakirovic’s men have won their last two away games at Stoke City and Millwall, and will take on the Owls, who are heading down to League One after a host of financial issues saw them enter administration earlier this season.
The Owls sit bottom of the league with just one win all season and are yet to taste victory in front of their own supporters, but will be desperate to damage the Tigers’ play-off hopes after putting up a battling effort in their 3-1 defeat at Ipswich Town on Saturday.
On the road, City have won four, lost four and drawn two of their 10 away trips, with Friday’s game marking the halfway point of what has been a thrilling campaign so far.
The Tigers were 1-0 winners on their last trip to Hillsborough in April when Charlie Hughes’ bullet header in stoppage time secured a crucial victory in their quest to avoid relegation.
That result completed the Steel City double last season, with the Tigers under Ruben Selles securing a stunning 3-0 win at Bramall Lane in January to stun Chris Wilder’s Blades and inflict a first league home loss at that stage of the campaign.
