‘No one should have to endure crime and disorderly conduct on a daily basis’
Closure orders have been secured for two “nuisance” East Yorkshire properties. They mean nobody can enter either address for three months other than officers from the council, police, other emergency services or utility providers.
East Riding Of Yorkshire Council obtained both closure orders following reports of disorder. One relates to 139 South Back Lane, Bridlington.
This address had been “causing issues in the community for some time, with alleged links to organised crime groups using this property as a base for dealing drugs”, the council said. The authority’s antisocial behaviour team became aware of “serious nuisance” at the property following a street surgery by antisocial behaviour officers and a misuse of drugs act warrant at another property by Humberside Police.
Humberside Police Neighbourhood Policing Team provided key information about the property, that enabled the successful closure order.
The council also secured a closure order for 6 Watts Road, Beverley, following ongoing concerns about “nuisance and disorder” linked to the address. After receiving information from the authority’s housing team, and working with Humberside Police, evidence was collected to support the application.
Anyone else who enters or stays on either of these premises without a reasonable excuse can be fined, imprisoned or both.
Councillor Lyn Healing, East Riding Of Yorkshire Council cabinet member for communities and public protection, said: “No one should have to endure crime and disorderly conduct on a daily basis, and we are dedicated to taking firm action against antisocial behaviour.”
